Grievances

Annapolis has repeatedly injured us, abridged or denied our fundamental rights, and manipulated representation to the detriment of the five western counties of Maryland.  Our pleas for redress of grievances have been rebuffed or ignored by Annapolis.  To prove this let facts be submitted to the citizens of Maryland.

  • They have gerrymandered the State Delegate and Senate districts as well as the federal congressional districts to dilute and eliminate the minority voice in the political process.  Four jurisdictions have over fifty percent of the Delegate and Senate seats.  Four jurisdictions control the remaining twenty jurisdictions.  They have rigged the game and the rules.
  • They have enacted onerous, restrictive, and oppressive gun control legislation which violates our unalienable right of self-defense.
  • They have implemented a tax on our unalienable right of self-defense.  A poll tax is intended to tax a person to exercise their political right of suffrage and disenfranchise those that can’t afford it.  They are taxing the people to exercise their rights.
  • They have attempted to subvert the right of the people to petition legislation to referendum under the Maryland Declaration of Rights Article XV.
  • They have instituted laws that violate private property rights.  Plan Maryland has limited or restricted the acquisition, use, and disposal of real property.  Tier maps and zoning changes caused a loss in property values for which the property owner was not duly compensated.
  • They have usurped local zoning and planning control from the Counties.
  • They have implemented a Septic Bill that severely restricts property rights and use, mandates existing septic system replacements use the most costly replacement available.
  • They have violated the underlying principle of equal protection under the law by instituting a rain tax which applies only to the ten largest jurisdictions while exempting the other fourteen jurisdictions.
  • The General Assembly has acted unethically by terminating votes prematurely when they aren’t favorable to those in power.
  • They have forced unfunded mandates on the Counties.
  • They have declared Maryland a sanctuary state for illegal immigrants.
  • They have extended the privilege of in-state college tuition to illegal immigrants.
  • They have depleted the rainy day fund.
  • They have depleted the transportation fund as a budget gimmick to balance the budget.
  • They have implemented the State run exchanges under the Affordable Care Act.
  • They have adopted and implemented the federal education standards known as Common Core.
  • They have implemented laws that violate equal protection under the law.
  • They added a service fee to electric bills to subsidize off-shore wind power.
  • They have increased over fifty taxes and fees including:
  • They increased the sales tax from 5% to 6%.
  • They instituted a flush tax.  In 2013, they doubled the flush tax.
  • They instituted a rain tax on the ten largest jurisdictions.  The very idea that a drop of rain lands on your grass is not a pollutant, but one that lands once in left on your driveway is a pollutant is absurd.  For those people that live on well water it is a tax on your life and your ability to sustain your life.
  • They have instituted a heavily progressive estate tax structure.
  • They increased gasoline taxes and tied future tax increases to inflation.
  • They increased taxes on a pack of cigarettes from $1 to $2 per pack.
  • They increased taxes on certain tobacco products from 15% to 30%.
  • They have established new income tax rates from 4.75% to 5.5%.
  • They have increased the corporate income tax from 7% to 8.25%.
  • They have phased out the personal exemption at certain income levels.
  • They implemented millionaire’s tax.
  • They increased the sales tax on alcohol and alcoholic beverages from 6% to 9%.
  • They increased vehicle registration fees.
  • They instituted storm water management fees.
  • They instituted a 911 charge on wireless phones.
  • They increased (doubled) the death certificate fee from $12 to $24.
  • They increased the contractor licensing and renewal fee.
  • They increased (doubled) the vanity license plate fee from $25 to $50.
  • They increased vehicle dealer processing charges from $100 to $300.
  • They increased the weights and measures registration fee.
  • They increased (doubled) the lead poisoning prevention fund fee.
  • They restructured the Wetlands Water Way program fee.
  • They increased (doubled) the birth certificate fee from $12 to $24.
  • They increased the fishing license and registration fee.
  • They increased the vehicle titling tax from $23 to $50 in 2007, then to $100 in 2011.
  • They have increased (doubled) tolls.
  • They implemented an electronic gaming tip jar tax of 20%.
